Bagordi Barrel Fermented Rioja Blanco
Add to favouritesThe story of Bagordi is the story of the Carcar family and their devotion to the land. Their winemaking origins dates from 1723 and for fourteen generations they have cultivated the vineyard with respect and traditional methods and are completely organic through the estate.
This barrel fermented white Rioja is a relatively new addition to their range. The varieties here are harvested in the cool of the day, separately: the Sauvignon at
end August and the White Garnacha between end September and early October. The must is obtained following a cold maceration with the skins in stainless steel tanks. It is then fermented at just 16 degrees C in 225 litre barrels of new French oak. This is a slow natural process that allows all the fruity character of the grapes to be retained while adding the tannic element and the aroma of the French oak. Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine has a further six months’ maceration with the grape particles in the barrels, which are also turned once a week. When the wine is ready, it is filtered and bottled and quite delicious!
Pale straw yellow in colour, clean and bright. Powerful and attractive aromas suggestive of the sweet flesh of ripe fruit along with spicy aromas, of vanilla, of roasted coffee. In the mouth there is plenty of flavour and texture with the aromatic flavours continuing amongst the tannins and ripe fruit. Elegant and prolonged in the
nose with hints of pastry, vanilla oak and of fruit. It has a fresh, unctuous character this is most attractive and elegant.
