Greenhough Estate ‘Road Block’ Chardonnay
Add to favouritesGreenhough is a small organic producer based in the north-west of New Zealand’s South Island. For over 25 years they have been crafting authentic Nelson wines, with a style more reminiscent of the Loire than Marlborough Sauvignon. The wines have complexity and depth with an attractive elegance and persistance. Just 5% of the wine is aged in oak barrels, to round out the flavours and give a little creaminess without losing the freshness.
The old Chardonnay vines on the lower slopes give a wine that is full of rich, ripe fruit flavours whilst retaining a tangy citrus freshness. With 10 months in French oak barrels and a few years in bottle, this wine has a wonderful creamy richness supporting pear and ripe apple flavours. This is all balanced by a pure, delicate minerality that makes this a most attractive and generous wine.
“Tangy, Chablis-like chardonnay with oyster-shell, green apple, lime juice and subtle spicy oak flavours. A fruit-forward wine, with a delicious thread of mouth tingling acidity. Appealing purity and a silken texture. Good value.” 92/100 – Bob Campbell’s Real Review
