Chakana ‘Nuna Vineyard’ Organic Malbec
Add to favouritesBodega Chakana was founded in 2002 in Agrelo, Mendoza. From the start the aim was to be an authentic, original and conscious wine producer with minimal intervention in the winery. It is located in Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo, on the Finca Nuna estate, though there are also vineyards in the Uco Valley.
From 2012 Chakana began a conscientious process to transition to organic and biodynamic methods of cultivation, with certification acheived in 2016 for the Nuna vineyards. At 80 hectares this is one of the largest certified biodynamic vineyards in Argentina.
The wines are typically rich and full with fruit flavours to the fore. The fermentation is left to run its cause naturally with indigineous yeasts and the use of concrete tanks as well as oak barrels, so as to give the wine balance and character.
The Nuna Vineyard Malbec is arguably their best wine. It is ripe and fleshy in style with full-bodied layers of crushed plum and damson, framed by fruitcake rounded of with a lingering expresso note on the finish.
In summary this delicious, deeply flavoured red is vegan, vegetarian, organic, biodynamic, sustainable and Fair Trade. What more could you want!
